UPS implements dimensional price changes; WalMart waives fees for holiday toy season inventory
Besides the usual fee increases and holiday surcharges, UPS is revising its dimensional weight calculation policy. Starting August 18, 2025, any fractional measurement in a package’s length, width, or height will now be rounded up to the nearest whole inch. For example, a dimension of 11.1 inches will be treated as 12 inches.
This action matches a FedEx change going into effect Aug 18. Up to now, UPS has rounded down to the nearest half inch. The increased charges are of course dependent on current and future size and weight of shipments, but could mean a dollar or more per order increase for some brands.
For brands, the answer here is obvious - work to make the dimensions of your packaging below a round number (but as close to it as possible). This change will especially affect those shipping lighter, bulky packages - anything brands can do to compress products and optimize packaging size will create real, immediate savings.
Walmart Marketplace will waive commission (referral) fees on qualifying toy listings through December 31, 2025, according to eCOMMERCE BYTES. Sellers can identify these items using the Assortment Growth dashboard, which highlights customer favorites, most-searched, and best-selling products. Walmart emphasizes that sellers offering competitive pricing and fast shipping can enjoy up to 100% off referral fees on these items.
This doesn’t affect all storage fees, just peak storage fees. That peak fee most affects inventory stored over 30 days. So brands trying to store increased holiday inventory with Amazon will benefit greatly from this fee waiver.
Additionally, sellers using WalMart’s Multichannel Solutions (MCS) receive a 30% discount on services through October 1. That network is also offering access to two new ports in Vietnam to streamline international fulfillment for importing brands.
