Cross-border shipping costs more than postage.

The shipping bill is only the part you can see. The bigger costs are support load, brand damage, and the customers who never come back.

Slow delivery loses the sale

US shoppers compare you to domestic sellers. Multi-day cross-border shipping costs you the order right at checkout.

Unpredictable shipping cost

Cross-border parcel rates are high and keep moving, eating the margin on every US order you do win.

Customs delays and surprise fees

Tighter US enforcement means slower clearance and unexpected charges your customer feels at the door.

A flood of "where is my order?"

Slow, hard-to-track shipments fill your inbox with "where is my order?" emails. You turn into a full-time support desk instead of building the brand.

Fewer repeat orders

A rough first delivery damages the brand impression. Customers do not come back, and your lifetime value quietly drops.

So some brands just give up

It gets bad enough that founders switch off US sales to stop the losses and the complaints. That is the most expensive outcome of all.

Do not turn off the US. Turn on fast shipping.

The US is probably your biggest market. Abandoning it to escape shipping pain is the most expensive decision you can make. There is a better fix: ship like a domestic brand.

Hold inventory in the US. Ship like a local.

Cross the border once, in bulk. After that, every order ships domestically from a location near your customer. Faster delivery, lower cost, fewer complaints, and customers who order again.

  • Fast domestic delivery. Ship from inside the US, close to your customers, at the speed they expect.
  • Lower, predictable cost. Cross the border once in bulk, then pay domestic rates on every order.
  • No customs surprises for buyers. Duties are handled once on the bulk shipment, not per parcel at the door.
  • Far fewer "where is my order?" emails. Fast, trackable domestic shipping removes the main reason customers email you.
  • More repeat orders. A great delivery experience protects your brand and brings customers back.
  • No minimums. The fair deal a big US 3PL will not give a brand your size.

Frequently asked questions

Will this cut down on customer complaints? +

Yes. Most cross-border complaints come from slow, opaque delivery and surprise customs fees. Shipping domestically from inside the US removes the main causes, so you get far fewer "where is my order" tickets and better reviews.

Do I need a US business entity? +

Not necessarily to get started. Many Canadian brands sell into the US without a US entity. The right setup depends on your volume and tax situation, and we can walk you through the options and connect you with the right help.

How does my inventory get to the US? +

You send a bulk shipment across the border once, and we receive it into our distributed network. From there, every individual order ships domestically within the US. Crossing in bulk is far cheaper and simpler than crossing one parcel at a time.

What about duties and customs? +

Duties apply when your inventory enters the US, handled once on the bulk shipment rather than per order. We will help you understand the process and work with customs brokers so there are no surprises.

Am I too small for this? +

If you have real US demand, you are not too small. Big US 3PLs will not give a small Canadian brand fair pricing or attention. That gap is exactly who we built Middle Mile for.
